The first day of Young Chef's Camp always start slow. I didn't know why but I felt somewhat positive about the thing this year. Every year I dread for this programme because I don't really like to work with kids. Maybe I've come across so many spoilt brats that I've developed this feeling of dislike towards them.
So, we organized ice breaking games first. We played the memory name game; which went so horribly slow because the kids were shy at first, and Pictionary. Yes, Pictionary. Of course we came up with the words which have something to do with cooking and it's 'All Play' all the time. Some of the pictures they drew were so funny. XD
There was this five year old girl who drew just a circle for the word tomato. The group went wild guessing - fishball, egg, ball... And there was this group that said peach and persimmon. I didn't even know that they knew what persimmon was. I wish I'd taken pictures of their drawings.
This week, they're making pastries. So there was the fruit tartlet and cream puff. The kids found out that you need a lot of muscle to create in the kitchen. Funny to watch.

Poo shaped cream puffs.

Mr. Diligent. And he's only 11.

Spreading ze sakai-ness
The hardest part, I think, was to keep them entertained when they had to wait for their turn to use the machines. You know, so that they don’t wander off and play with sand and rocks and what not.
It’s funny how easy it is to entertain kids with something simple. You don’t have to worry whether or not it’s lame because what kids’ think funny is is different than what adults think is funny.
So there was the “There’s Something in My Hand” game where some of the kids thought that there was nothing in them at times; which was true… at times. But to stir things up a little, I told them that I said there was ‘something’ in them and ‘nothing’ is not ‘something’. I think I confused them. XD The answer was thin air…

Tea setting.

More monkeying around.
On the second day, they only played one ice breaking game; which was something random sis and I came up with. We stuck on stickers on the walls and asked them to find as many as they could. As planned, they turned the room upside down. Later, they had to use the stickers to make a picture. The result? Only the cupcake looked like the cupcake. XD

Rolling pins.

Lucky for the kids, it was Ying Ho's birthday. Cake and KFC!

That's how they are in real life. Blab, blab, blabble...

Cheers! for a successful first week of camp.
